Playboi Carti’s self-titled debut dropped last night. “Half and Half” appears on it.
Finally, Playboi Carti’s long-awaited/anticipated/etc debut mixtape dropped last night– if there was any rapper who would truly give no fucks that he’s dropping on the same day as Kendrick Lamar, it would probably be Carti. Most other artists would be eclipsed in the wake of DAMN., but not Carti nor his cult following.
The project contains only a few features, including fellow “yeah”-advocate Lil Uzi Vert and affiliate ASAP Rocky. The mixtape starts off with some laid-back Harry Fraud production, and in true form, the mixtape maintains the care-free attitude that Carti emulates when it comes to song structure and sound.
A highlight after running through the songs is “Half and Half,” with the production built upon tingling and watery electronic noises, while sirens and howls appear intermittently. Take a listen and let us know if Carti’s project was worth the wait. You can stream it here.
